In a Tamil marriage biodata the jathagam is not a separate page. It sits on the same sheet as the details, as two square boxes — the ராசி கட்டம் (Rasi) and the நவாம்சம் கட்டம் (Navamsam) — and many families look at it before anything else.
This page explains what each part of the format means. The builder then draws both kattams for you from the date, time and place of birth, in Tamil, on an A4 sheet you can download as a PDF.

What is in a jathagam
Rasi chartராசி கட்டம்
The birth chart: which sign each planet was in at the moment of birth. The twelve boxes around the edge are the twelve signs, always in the same place; only the planets move.
Navamsam chartநவாம்சம் கட்டம்
The same planets, placed by the ninth part of the sign they were in (each sign split into nine slices of 3°20′). Families and astrologers read it closely for marriage.
Lagnamலக்னம்
The sign rising in the east at the moment of birth, marked in its box. It changes about every two hours, which is why the birth time matters.
Nakshatram and Rasiநட்சத்திரம் · ராசி
The Moon's star (one of 27) and the Moon's sign (one of 12). They are printed in words above the charts, and they are the first thing compared for porutham.

What you need before you start

- பிறந்த நேரம் — the exact time of birth, from the birth certificate or the family's horoscope
- பிறந்த இடம் — place of birth; the town is enough
- Or your existing handwritten jathagam — you can copy every box in by hand instead

Common questions
What if I don't know the exact birth time?+
The Lagnam — and sometimes the Moon's nakshatra — depends on the birth time, so a guessed time gives a wrong chart. If the family already has a jathagam written by an astrologer, use that: place each planet in its box exactly as written. Every box stays editable.
Our jathagam was written from the Vakya panchangam. Will it match?+
Almost always. The builder calculates with the Lahiri ayanamsa, the same basis Thirukanitha panchangams use. A planet very close to the edge of a sign can sit in the next box in a Vakya chart; if that happens, click the box and move it, so the chart your astrologer wrote is the one that prints.
Does it check porutham?+
No. It makes the biodata and draws the jathagam; matching two jathagams for porutham is for your family astrologer. Most families simply send the biodata PDF to the astrologer on WhatsApp — the kattams print clearly enough to read.
Is the jathagam free?+
Building it and previewing it in every design is free. The download that prints the kattams is a paid design, from ₹29, one time, no login. The free Free Classic design prints நட்சத்திரம் and ராசி as text rows, but not the kattams.
Will the Tamil print correctly?+
Yes. The sheet is set in Noto Sans Tamil in the preview and in the PDF, so letters like ஸ்ரீ and the vowel signs look the same on screen and on paper, on any phone or printer.
